This test will detect Herpes I and II from a finger-prick blood sample. It is suitable when you do not have symptoms.

Is this Herpes test accurate?

Yes, this is an accurate test that allows you to test for Herpes Simplex Virus types I and II from the comfort and privacy of your own home. This is a blood test which means it is very accurate when you do not have any symptoms. If you are not sure which STI you may have or are concerned about a risky encounter, Better2Know recommend the Full Screen which also tests for a range of other STIs including HIV, Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea.

How does this Herpes test work?

This is a blood test which you collect from home with the kit provided. After you have bought your test online, Better2Know will post your discreet Herpes test pack to your home (the postal pack is plain so no one will know what it is). Open the pack, where you will find a form, three finger prick lancets, a small gold topped tube, wipes and a return envelope. In addition, Better2Know will email you a copy of the sample collection instruction leaflet. The leaflet will give you instructions on how to collect your sample. It is important that you follow the instructions on the leaflet carefully. You will get an email when your results are ready, but you can log on and check online whenever you like.

When will my home testing kit arrive?

Orders placed before 11am, Monday to Friday, will post it out to you by first class the same day. Depending upon where you live, your Herpes test should arrive the next working day or the day after.

How long before I get my Herpes test result?

The results of your Herpes test should be ready within two working days from when your sample arrives at the laboratory.

What happens if my Herpes test is positive?

Better2Know can help you with any support that you need. There is no cure for herpes, but the symptoms can be managed with medication. Better2Know can arrange an appointment with a Doctor so that you can discuss the results and get a prescription for the required medication (there will be a small fee for this), or you can take your results to your own GP.

Is testing through Better2Know confidential?

Yes. Your results and details are 100% confidential and Better2Know will not inform your GP or anyone without your permission.

How long should I wait after an encounter before getting a Herpes test?

You should wait at least 28 days since any incident you are concerned about before getting a Herpes test if you have not had any symptoms. If you test before this time, the Herpes test may not be as accurate as it can be.

Please note: These tests are provided and carried out by Better2Know who will respond with the results.

FAQs about the Better2Know service

WHEN WILL YOU SEND MY KIT TO ME?

If your order is placed before 11am on a working day, then it will be sent the same day. Otherwise it will be sent on the next working day.

WHY DO YOU NEED MY EMAIL ADDRESS?

Your Patient Services Manager, Louise Wright, will email you your login details to access your results, a confirmation your kit has been dispatched and finally when all your results are ready. They do not sell on or email you any other marketing materials, that is why they do not ask you to opt in or out of anything.

DO I NEED TO USE MY REAL NAME?

No, but the postman does need to know where to deliver the kit to. As long as you use a name that will get the kit to you, then they do not need your real name.

It will arrive in plain white envelope with your typed name and address on it.
