More information
This guide to contraceptive choices has been designed and written by FPA to be accessible for people with a range of learning disabilities (LD).
The guide covers a number of contraception methods, including condoms, the contraceptive pill, long-acting reversible contraception, emergency contraception and sterilisation. It explains in an easy to read format how each method works, how it is used, where it is available, its benefits and any potential disadvantages.
It's designed to be used with the support of a family member/carer or a support worker. People with mild learning disabilities and/or with high functioning skills within the Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) could use it independently but with support from family or carers to answer their questions. Can also be used as a sex and relationships education resource by teachers.
The guide is for people with LD aged 16 years and over.
All the information is based on evidence-guided research and the leaflet was quality assured by people with LD from People in Control.
Also available to purchase as a pack of five for £14.99. Currently on offer for £8.99.
