Is the Full STI Screen accurate?

Yes, Better2Know use a CPA accredited laboratory and these are the most accurate STI tests available.

You can test for HIV types I and II and the p24 antigen (an early marker of HIV) from the comfort and privacy of your own home. This is a blood test for HIV so it is a very accurate test (99.8% 28 days after any incident you are concerned about, rising to 99.9% after 3 months).

How does the test work?

This test requires blood and urine samples that you collect at home with the kit provided. After you have bought your test online, Better2Know will post your discreet pack to your home by first class post. The postal pack is plain so no one will know what it is. When you open the pack you will find a form, three finger-prick lancets, a small gold topped tube, a urine collection container, wipes and a post-paid return envelope. Better2Know will also email you a detailed sample collection leaflet, which will give you clear step-by-step instructions on how to collect your samples. It is important to follow the instructions on the leaflet carefully. Post the samples back to Better2Know in the envelope supplied, and you will get an email as soon as your results are ready. You can also can log on securely and check for your results online whenever you like.

When will my home testing kit arrive?

Orders placed before 11am, Monday to Friday, will post it out to you by first class the same day. Depending upon where you live, your STI test kit should arrive the next working day or the day after.

How long before I get my test results?

Typically, the results of your tests should be ready within five working days from when your sample arrives at the laboratory.

What happens if I have a positive result?

Do not worry, Better2Know can arrange an appointment with a doctor if you would like them to. You can discuss the results and get a prescription for any medication that you need (there will be a small fee for this), or you can take your results to your own GP.

Better2Know will call you if your HIV result is positive and arrange for you to have a second test (which is included in the price). If your second test is positive then Better2Know can help you decide where you want to be referred for treatment and help you get any other support you need. This can include talking to an HIV specialist consultant and the Terrence Higgins Trust.

Is testing for STIs through Better2Know confidential?

Yes. Your results and details are 100% confidential and Better2Know will not inform anyone, including your GP, without your permission.

How long should I wait after an encounter before getting a Full STI Screen test?

You should wait at least 28 days since any incident you are concerned about before getting this test. If you test before this time, your STI test results may not be as accurate as they can be.
