FPA information policy

The information on this website can only give you general information about sexual health. This information is based on the evidence and medical opinion available at the time this information was produced. Different people may give you different information and advice about certain points. More about our sexual health information.

FPA links policy

Requesting a link to or from the FPA website

You do not need permission to create a link from your website to most pages of our website. However, please do not link to our PDFs, Word documents or image files without written permission. You can request permission by emailing [email protected]. We reserve the right to request the removal of any link to any part of our website.

If you would like FPA to link to your website please email [email protected]. We get many requests so you may not hear back from us straight away. Our policy is to link only to sites which provide accurate, up-to-date and UK-applicable information around sexual health. We do not link to directories. We will contact you by email to let you know of our decision. We reserve the right to choose which sites we link to and will not enter into any correspondence about our decision process.

You may not download any of our files (for example PDF versions of our leaflets) and host them on another website. Please see our copyright information.

Links to external websites from this site

FPA is not responsible for the content or policies of external websites we link to.

We may link to websites which also offer commercial services. The inclusion of a link to an external website from the FPA website is not an endorsement of that website, the site's owners or their products/services.

Our policy on linking to private organisations

We will consider adding links to private organisations from Where else can I get help?.

Please read the requirements below and if you fulfil these, then email [email protected] for inclusion on our website. All requests will be thoroughly checked and you may be emailed if additional information is required.

Your organisation will need to provide evidence that:

  • The information you provide is clinically accurate in accordance with FPA criteria. We make sure that all our clinical information is in line with guidance from the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare and British Association of Sexual Health and HIV. If information is not clinically sound FPA will not link to it.
  • The information you provide is factually accurate. We make sure that our site uses the most current and up-to-date research and statistics available.
  • You are registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and the General Medical Council (GMC). Under the Health and Social Care Act 2008, any service provider who carries out a regulated activity must register with the CQC. All doctors working in the UK (including in private practice) must be licensed medical practitioners. This means they will have to hold both registrations with the GMC and a licence to practise.
  • If you are a pharmacy you need to be registered with the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) and to be on the MHRA’s list of UK registered online retail sellers. You also need to display the EU common logo on every page of your website offering medicines for sale. This must be done even if you are also using the General Pharmaceutical Council’s voluntary internet pharmacy logo to indicate that not only are you registered, but that you are also regulated by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain.

As a general rule FPA does not take funding from private services listed, instead we include information which is relevant to our user group, for example details of private clinics that provide testing for sexually transmitted infections.

There may be cases where we do provide a link to an organisation which has sponsored an event, such as one of our awareness weeks. However, we would only provide the link if the information fulfilled the main requirements and checks as outlined in this policy. We do not link to directories.
