Everything you need to know about our ‘best in class’ RSE literature.
Facilitating the education of children and young people on the topic of RSE is something we’re passionate about. The provision of accurate and engaging information is vital to successfully educate children and young people on relationships and sex education (RSE).
Prior to September 2020, when teaching RSE become statutory, we were already working in consultation with teachers and schools to help develop resources, and teaching aids that support the process of making difficult conversations – much easier.
Best in class RSE leaflets for pupils
When developing teaching aids, we embrace variety to help facilitate the process of teaching across all learning styles, but our RSE literature really is ‘best in class’. From identifying a need, to finished print, the whole process is driven by our gold standard approach to information provision and aligns itself with the processes we use to develop our patient information leaflets; loved by clinicians and experts throughout the NHS and private clinics UK wide.
Experts in the pursuit of ‘best in class’ standards
When it comes to RSE and sensitive topics, nothing short of excellence is required. When a need is identified, we seek consultation and agree a scope for the leaflet with an expert or specialist in the topic.
“We use direct consultation with teachers to help us identify where support is needed and align this with our consistent development of Growing up with Yasmine and Tom. We are focussed on excellence and ease of information delivery – teaching RSE is not always an easy experience and we want to help make that transfer of knowledge simple for the teacher and engaging for the pupils.”
Careful consideration is given to the topic and the format of the literature to ensure it is age appropriate. Typically, the experts we consult will also be employed to write the content for the leaflet, ensuring the information is up to date, accurate and unbiased.
A team of expert editors are used to review and update the information accordingly creating a first draft which is sent for external review by other expert professionals in the field. The pursuit of excellence requires two additional experts to check for accuracy, clinical or otherwise. Once approved, all information is then designed appropriately, before being proofed once more.
RSE leaflets user testing and focus groups
The most vital part of our process is gaining feedback from those who matter, both teachers and users. We employ various ways to gather important feedback from our audience, from surveys to focus groups. Opting for the latter where more sensitive topics are covered. We pay particular attention to how the information is consumed in isolation, understanding that some (not all) of our RSE school leaflets are consumed by the user when alone, giving greater importance to the interpretation of the information when there is no teacher to ask questions.
We act upon the feedback, making any additional changes required and will revisit user testing and proofing as many times as necessary to achieve user satisfaction.
“Our recently updated “Wet Dreams” leaflet was reviewed through a focus group where teachers sat with the pupils and discussed the booklets – this gave us valuable qualitative information that drove the visual development of leaflet, as much as the information provided.”
